Welcome to the Charles E. Lakin YMCA

The YMCA has had a presence in the Council Bluffs community since 1867, evolving itself over this time. The Charles E. Lakin YMCA was a dream by a community longing to address the health needs of Council Bluffs. With help from a lead gift by Charles E. Lakin and Iowa West, the Council Bluffs residents have rallied around this Y, which is here for all community members to not only live healthily, but to thrive.

The YMCA is Open!

All YMCA of Greater Omaha branches are officially open. As with any business, reopening will look a little different to that of pre-COVID operations, so please take a minute to familiarize yourself with What To Expect below.

What To Expect:

Like most businesses, reopening will look a little different than pre-COVID operations. Specifically, with the safety of everyone in mind, members should expect to see the following guidelines in place when returning to the Y:

  • Facilities will operate at or below 75% occupancy at all times, on a first-come/first-serve basis. Members will scan in AND scan out. For further details on how to add your barcode to your phone using the YMCA app, click here.
  • Youth aged 10+ are allowed on Wellness Floors as long as they have completed Youth Fitness Training.
  • Group exercise has restarted, including aqua classes. Please use the YMCA of Greater Omaha app to reserve your spot in class beginning at 5:00 pm the Thursday prior; learn more here.
  • Pools are open for lap swimming and water walking (Twin Rivers YMCA & Kirn Pool are excluded due to repairs. YMCA Healthy Living Center pool will reopen on July 6). Updated pool schedules will be posted weekly. Bring your own towel! Use the YMCA app to reserve your lane – learn more here
  • Locker rooms are open. Please bring your own towel.
  • Cardio and weight equipment, free weights and walking tracks are available, with some machines and stations unavailable for use.
  • Proper social distancing will be in place, with 6’ distance markers and appropriately placed equipment.
  • Water fountains will be bottle fill only.
  • Additional cleaning & safety measures will be in place, including key staff wearing masks.
  • Gyms, Childwatch, steam/sauna, coffee stations, towel service and other amenities are not currently available (see below for return dates). Y Without Walls online virtual classes are still available here.
